In order to be respectful of your time and ours, we ask for a concise “pre-proposal” that summarizes your thinking around a potential proposal. Interesting ideas that we believe have the potential to innovate the existing state of the art will quickly attract our attention. In those cases, we will contact you regarding next steps (those next steps will likely include some additional discussion to more fully understand your thinking, maybe a 30-minute discussion/presentation, a slightly more detailed proposal reflecting more specificity and depth of thought after our discussions, and some more complete terms and conditions). In order to get started, please prepare a summary document with the following concise materials (please see attached example):
Principal Investigator Name/Team member names
Written Description (less than 150 words)
Related work (brief review of the state of the current research)
Summary Experimental Plan (less than 100 words)
How this work is different/new (less than 150 words)
Please do not submit anything confidential or proprietary. We intend to discuss these pre-proposals widely within our organization and we can’t guarantee confidentiality. No confidential relationship will be created when you submit ideas and materials.
We will very likely receive submissions that include ideas that are very similar to, or may even actually overlap our in-house developments. By submitting you are giving us the unrestricted right to use and disclose any unpatented ideas and materials you submit. We will be free to pursue the same or similar ideas without any restrictions or obligations to you.
